On 16th May, unfortunately, too late for June’s Octave, the Annual Parish Meeting was held in the Village Hall. This year’s meeting aimed to bring together as many groups as possible that are based in Elston. We had representatives from Elston Voices, Twelve to the Bar, Elston Parish Allotments, All Saints Church, the Village Hall, the Village Shop and The Chequers. All these groups, together with the many other activities that take place in the village, help make Elston the thriving community it is.
At our meeting on 10th June, although it seemed very early, we discussed moving the village Christmas decorations to a more prominent position within the village. The tree is currently sited behind the Village Hall, and Cllr Hayley Storey presented recommendations at our meeting on 8th July.
Also at the June meeting, the Parish Council and the Village Hall agreed to share the cost of replacing the much-loved memorial bench on the corner of the Village Green. We are aiming to replace it with a bench similar to those in Erasmus Darwin Park.
The Parish Council has continued to enable the cutting of the Village Hall Green, the churchyard, and the borders and hedges of Erasmus Darwin Park.
The Parish Council’s King’s Birthday celebration was a great success despite the blustery conditions. The Parish Council funded the entertainment, while Graham, George and their team hosted a wonderful event for the village to enjoy. A special mention goes to Nathan for the amazing pizzas.
On 5th July, Elston Parish Allotments held a successful Open Day, allowing visitors to see the fantastic array of fruit and vegetables being grown. Visitors also enjoyed the heritage orchard and wildlife pond. The allotments are owned by the Parish Council and managed by the Allotment Management Committee.
There is now an updated version of the Elston Parish Council website at www.elston-pc.org.uk. Thank you to Cllr Chrissy Ward and the Clerk for all their hard work in getting it up and running.
We also have a Facebook page, Elston Parish Council, where agendas for upcoming meetings are posted, as well as on the noticeboard next to the Village Hall.
The next Parish Council meeting will be held on 9th September at 7.00 pm in the Village Hall.
