Elston Parish

Pentagon Local History Society

The Pentagon Local History Society was founded in 1987 to encourage and develop an interest in local history for the communities of Elston and other surrounding villages and to promote and foster a general appreciation of history for its own sake.

The Society meets at 7.30 in Elston Village Hall on the fourth Wednesday of every month from September to April with guest speakers on a range of mainly local historical topics, though the subjects often range over a far wider field. From May to July, there are visits to places of historical interest close enough to be reached in the evening, those at greater distance being visited during the day. There is no meeting in August and the December meeting is an annual dinner when the guest speaker normally provides a quiz.

Members pay a small annual subscription due in September to cover the cost of the meetings. Non members pay an entrance charge for any meeting they attend but the cost of their first meeting is refunded if they join. The cost includes tea or coffee and biscuits.
